Convention on Biological Diversity The objectives of this Convention, to be pursued in accordance with its relevant provisions, are the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources. The Biosafety Protocol is so far the only protocol under the convention.

Aarhus ConventionNorway is a Party to the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention). In 2002, the Parties to the convention adopted Guidelines on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice with respect to Genetically Modified Organisms was, and in May 2005 more precise provisions on public participation in decision-making on deliberate release of genetically modified organisms were agreed upon.
